About IAPPD

Indian Association of Parliamentarians on Population and Development (IAPPD), a 46 years old national autonomous non-profitable organization founded by Late Shri Sat Paul Mittal, MP, in 1978, for the people's elected representatives from Panchayat to Parliament, irrespective of their party affiliations, is now actively working under the Chairmanship of Prof. P.J. Kurien, Former Deputy Chairman, Rajya Sabha, in the field of population stabilization programmes, in co-operation with Ministry of Health and Family Welfare/UNFPA/UNICEF and other UN Agencies.

IAPPD is also working very closely with Asian Forum of Parliamentarians on Population and Development (AFPPD), Japan; Asian Population and Development Association (APDA), Japan having a network of 35 countries in Asia Pacific and Central Asia; International Planned Parenthood Federation, London; and European Parliamentary Forum, Belgium.

During these years, it has gone much ahead in motivating/sensitizing the elected representatives (Parliamentarians, Legislators & Panchayati Raj members) and through them to reach the masses regarding alarming increase in population and consequent problems facing India, IAPPD has also been instrumental in convincing the Indian States to give advice to their eligible couples to adopt small family through practices of contraceptives. In order to sustain their interest in the population and development activities, the IAPPD from time to time organizes orientations, workshops, seminars, meetings, study tours and conferences, conducting research studies and preparing thematic papers. The events on Women Empowerment, ageing, Maternal and Child Health, respectable deliveries etc. were inaugurated/addressed by the Hon'ble Presidents of India, Vice Presidents of India, Prime Ministers, Speakers of Lok Sabha, Health Ministers of India and other Ministers of Govt. of India and State Governments. IAPPD also nominates Parliamentarians to the international meetings/conferences which gives them exposure and an opportunity to interact with others.
