About Us

Through this web site, we would like to provide information on philosophy behind formation of IAPPD its activities, both past and present. We would also like to share with you information on various issues of public importance. We sincerely hope the site will not only serve as a channel of communication but also help in exchanching ideas and a platform for debate on various issues.

Background

The Indian Association of Parliamentariants on Population and Development (IAPPD) is a national level Organization established in the year 1978. The organization was formed with an imperative of moderating the pace of population growth for a smoother course of development so as to ensure an overall improvement in the quality of life of the people and maintain a proper balance between population and development.

The IAPPD is convinced that the population stabilisation programme will not succeed unless it is backed by a popular mass movement in favour of a general acceptance of the small family norm and it needs to be approached within a developmental frame-work that offers a well-integrated package of health, education, employment, and social and environmental policies. Introduction of innovative mechanisms for decentralised planning and policy formulation is the need of the hour. For this purpose, it is obviously necessary to promote and also ensure well-informed participation of parliamentarians in local level developmental planning.

Network

Apart from its links with and access to various NGOs and specialised agencies both at the national and international level, particularly in Asia, the IAPPD is an affiliated body of the following fora and associations:
  • The Global Forum of Parliamentarians on Population and Development, New York, USA. The Asian Forum of Parliamentarians on Population and Development, AFPPD Bangkok, Tailand.

  • The Asian Population and Development Association, APDA Tokyo, Japan.

  • International Medical Parliamentarians Organization (IMPO) .
